Minnesota Prairie County Alliance would like to share important information about Make a Plan Minnesota!
The purpose of Make a Plan, Minnesota! is two-fold: Encourage families to create temporary, alternative plans of care for their children in the event their parents or adult caregivers are temporarily too ill from COVID-19 to care for them and prevent children from entering the child welfare system.
The MN Department of Human Services, MN Department of Health, and MN Housing Authority have created a document for families to complete that identifies their plan for care of their children, Emergency Planning and Information Kit. This document helps guide families through a process to identify caregivers, gather vital family and child information an alternative caregiver might need to know while caring for their children, and share their plan with others. We encourage families to complete this plan early and discuss within their families and support network. Click here to view the emergency family planning document.
It’s never too early to make a plan. Before the emergency is upon a family, we urge families to talk now with their support networks about who will be able to step in and help provide care for their children or other supports, such as dropping off meals or checking in with the children daily if a parent is quarantined at home.
Please share this information with families that you work with and partner organizations in your network that work with families to support them in planning, if appropriate. Translation of these documents into Spanish, Hmong and Somali will be coming soon!
